Healing Our History

Why do we humans have such a hard time completely letting go of emotional and behavioral dynamics that don’t support our happiness and well-being? Why do we hold to cultural or family characteristics that make life harder?

I recently read an article in the May 2013 issue of Discover Magazine that provides some possible answers to those questions.

The article, Trait vs Fate by Dan Hurley, is about an aspect of DNA science called Behavioral Epigenetics. Scientists have discovered that our DNA carries molecular imprints caused by intense emotional experiences, creating behavioral and emotional traits that are passed on to future generations. They’ve also discovered that these imprints can be wiped clear, which then changes behavioral and emotional characteristics.

For many years I’ve offered a type of healing work that came to me in a dream. I call it Ancestral Lineage Healing and it’s done through Shamanic Journey.

The basic process is that we, my client and I, call the souls of all of his/her direct ancestors together and we all focus on one family dynamic that needs to be healed. Then we ask the ancestor who introduced this dynamic into the family to identify her/himself. Then the whole family unites their energy and lovingly provides healing to this ancestor. After the ancestor is healed we send the new wholeness to all descendants of that ancestor, including all generations yet to be born.

This form of healing has proved to be very effective, even for families with many generations of dysfunctional relationship dynamics.

As I read the article in Discover, I realized that this is a place where Spirit and Science are finally meeting each other. We’re now beginning to get scientific proof that we can cross the time/space continuum and change the present and future by healing the past.

From my own experience, it’s hard to let go because you feel it’s integral to your life. However it’s the letting go that heals your life.
